Indian Railways (IR), with a total fleet of approximately 64,000 coaches and 2.5 lacs wagons, is running about 22,600 passenger & freight trains every day, carrying over 25 million passengers and 3 million tonnes freight on its 67,000 route kms of railway network.
In view of emerging requirements, there was an urgent need to induct modern technology on Indian Railways. Towards this objective, Research, Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), Lucknow under Ministry of Railways (Government of India) organised a ‘Global Technology Conference (GTC-IR)’, for assessing contemporary global technologies, relevant for adoption on Indian Railways. The Conference was a multi-disciplinary platform for the Industry, Academia and Research Fraternity across the World to interact with Experts of Indian Railways for identification of appropriate cutting edge technologies and systems available worldwide for adaptation and deployment on Indian Railways and Public Sector Undertakings under Ministry of Railways.
Themes of the Conference were the critical areas relevant to Indian Railways – Safety, Reliability, Capacity Enhancement and Customer Service. The Conference was organized by RDSO under the combined aegis of Institute of Rolling Stock Engineers (IRSE), Institution of Railway Signal and Telecommunication Engineers (IRSTE), Institution of Railway Electrical Engineer (IREE) and the Institution of Permanent Way Engineers (IPWE) at Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi on 3rd and 4th May 2017.
